Car Donated to Help Willie Defeat the Old Firm
In response to an article in the local press last December, Mitsubisihi Motors has donated a car to the Aberdeen Football Club's community coaching scheme. Lottery tickets are being sold and one lucky winner will drive away with a new 'Colt Red.'
It all began with an article featuring Dons Director of Football Willie Miller, who appeared in the press last December under the headline "Help Me Beat The Old Firm Again." In the article he made an appeal for support from local businesses for funding to assist in the running of the Dons award winning community coaching scheme.
Shortly after that, Mitsubishi Motors launched a new campaign, highlighting the new 'Colt Red', promoting it on television and in the press using the theme of football.
North East Mitsubishi dealership Station Garage approached AFC to offer support by way of donating a 'Colt Red' to raise funds for the community department as Director Bob Shepherd explains. "What Neil Simpson, Jim Crawford and the rest of the community team are doing for local children deserves much more recognition and support. AFC needs first call on our local children and financing this award winning coaching scheme will hopefully help. The team faces fierce and sometimes unfair competition from rival teams with greater resources and the community should get behind this to try and keep our future football stars at Aberdeen."
Dons senior community coach Neil Simpson added. "This is an absolutely unbelievable gesture from Bob and his colleagues at the Station Garage and it really demonstrates the depth of feeling people have for the club. This is exactly the kind of support Willie was alluding to in his original article and the monies raised from the prize draw for the car really will make a difference!"
In association with AFC, Station Garage will be running a Prize Draw 'Reds In The Community' to win a 'Colt Red' over the summer months and the car will be on display at various local shows and shopping centres. 'Colt Red' tickets are also available in person at the Pittodrie ticket office. The draw will take place on Friday 28th October 2005. Results will appear on RedWeb.
