Profile:
Alexander Moir, who for the past three seasons had filled the outside right position in the first eleven of the Aberdeen Football Club, has died in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Moir, who was 25 years of age, was a native of Woodside, a son of Mr Alexander Moir, Western Road. In addition to being a talented football player, he was also a good all-round cricketer, and one of the best players in the Woodside Club. He was a juvenile football player with the old Woodside Club and was then secured by Mugiemoss, for whom he played at centre forward. Four seasons ago his ability attracted the attention of several senior clubs. He was signed on for the Aberdeen Club early one morning, Mr James Philip, the then manager of the club, having ascertained that the representative of an English League Club was on his way north to secure the player's signature. Moir's popularity with clubmates and the public generally was unmistakable.

DEATH OF ABERDEEN F.C. PLAYER.

The death occurred the Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen, on Monday, of Alexander Moir, who was for three seasons with the Aberdeen Football Club, and last season was the recognised outside right of the first eleven.

Moir, who was only 25 years of age, was a native of Woodside, being the second son of Mr Alexander Moir, 77 Western Road, had been a patient in the Infirmary since the beginning of August. Moir contracted a chili just before the opening of the football season, and pneumonia developed. He was then admitted to the Infirmary, but complications arose, and meningitis followed. Several operations were performed, and all that was possible done for him, but he gradually sank, and it was recognised some time ago that there was little hope of his recovery.
Moir, who was a fine specimen of athletic manhood, was a very clean-living young fellow, and was a non-smoker and a teetotaler. He was very fond of outdoor recreations, and, in addition to being a talented footballer, was a good all-round cricketer, being one of the best players the Woodside Club.
As juvenile footballer he was associated with the old Woodside Club, and his merit was recognised when he was secured by Mugie&oss, for whom he played many fine games centre-forward.
Four seasons ago, his ability attracted the attention of numerous senior clubs, and it will be recalled that Mr James Philip, the ex-manager of Aberdeen, signed him on for tie Pittodrie Club in the early hours of the morning, this step being necessary as it was known an English League club had a representative on the journey north to sign the player.
As a senior, Moir did not at first "make good" as a centre-forward, but he later his true position at outside right, and gave some fine displays for the league team. He was an enthusiastic and wholehearted player, for whom a big future was predicted, and regret was widespread at the illness which prevented him from playing this season.
Moir possessed a most likeable disposition and was immensely popular not only with his clubmates Pittodrie, but with the public generally.
Previous to becoming professional footballer, he was employed at Grandholm Mills. Much sympathy will be expressed with his parents in their loss.
