Darren is currently the club's all-time SPL top goal-scorer at the time he left at the end of season 2011/12. A
product of the Aberdeen youth system, he was with the
club from 1998 and made his debut against Dundee as a 17-year old
in August 1999. He hit 15 goals for Aberdeen
in 2004-05 which helped the team to a fourth place finish.
Mackie was hit by injuries during his time at the club but
remained an important player due to his pace, tenacious attitude
and sporadic bursts of goal-scoring. He finished the 2006-07
season with 13 league goals. A man for the big occasion, he
scored his 50th goal for Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup first round
tie versus Dnipro. The goal put Aberdeen into the Group
Stages of that competition, and secured a substantial financial
windfall for the club. Mackie scored his 50th league goal for
Aberdeen on 20 December 2008 against Inverness Caledonian
Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. He signed a new
three-year contract with Aberdeen in February 2009, leaving the club at the end of it having played his final game on 12th May 2012.
