Profile: |
Full name: Horace James Preston.
Signed on the recommendation of former Dons' captain Bob Fraser, Jimmy arrived in Aberdeen in December 1946 and made his Reserve debut at Brockville on New Year's Day 1947. In December 1947 Jimmy was loaned out to Peterhead to get some experience of the rough and tumble of the Highland League. Popular with the Pittodrie faithful, due to his enthusiastic personality and reputation for training hard, most did not feel that he had quite enough about him to make it with the Dons. However, with his physique and gradually improving performances, he did begin to win people over and coach Percy Dickie had faith in him, whilst others thought that he could become a first class centre-half. Sadly it didn't quite work out and Jimmy returned to South Africa in December 1948 where he worked as a fitter and turner and carried on playing for Boksburg where he later became a coach.
