The Aberdeen 6 - 1 Peterhead
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
Pitted against each other in the first round of the Aberdeenshire Cup competition, the Aberdeen and the Peterhead decided the game at Victoria Bridge grounds. The ground was in a soft condition after the heavy rain, and play in consequence was not so good as it might otherwise have been. The teams were: Aberdeen - Smyth; Davidson, Catto; C. Mackie, Henderson, Thomson; J. Mackie, Thomson, Cadger, Milne, Gray. Peterhead - Mackie; Sutherland, Watt; Cowie, Marr, Davidson; Smith, McKechnie, Mason, Clark, Shiach. Mr Banks who gained so much favour on his previous visit, was referee, and his decisions were most accurate. While no great surprise would have been created had Peterhead passed into the final round, it was generally expected that Aberdeen would register a victory. With the exception perhaps of their match with the Montrose in the previous week, our local amateurs have been giving poor exhibitions, and, although scientific play is sadly at a discount with the Peterhead team, they are famed as being determined cup-tie fighters. They were, however, quite unequal to the task of defeating the Aberdeen, who won by six goals to one.
