Orion 3 - 2 Forfar Athletic
Kick Off:    Grant, Webster, Webster       Prophet, Boath
Attendance: 0
Venue: Cattofield, Aberdeen
Played at Cattofield, Aberdeen. The match was looked forward to with considerable interest, for, while the Orion had three points to their credit for three matches in the League competitions, the Athletic, with only one point for two games, came north determined to equalise with the Cattofield men. In view of the other attractions in the city the attendance was not very large when the game, commenced. The players lined up as follows: Orion: Watson; James Low, Scott; Currie, John Low, "Forbes"; McPherson, Grant, Wilson, Hogg, Webster. Forfar Athletic: Soutar; Roger, Gibb; McFarlane, Thom, Mann; Prophet, Dickson, Taylor, Booth, Shepherd. Referee: Mr Davidson, Arbroath; linesmen: Orion, Mr John Thomson; Forfar Athletic, Mr Prophet.

Orion, losing the toss, kicked off uphill, a strong breeze blowing across the field. The ball was taken well up, but Gibb smartly intercepted its passage, and transferred play to the other end. Then John Low relieved, and Grant and McPherson, by clever play, took the ball smartly up the right, the exhibition being capped by Grant scoring a pretty goal after Gibb had repulsed an attack. Three times the Athletic came within an ace of scoring, but it was all owing to Shepherd lying offside, and this was observed by the referee in time. Indeed, Mr Davidson was giving general satisfaction by his strict and thoroughly impartial decisions. The Athletic once more got down, and, although there appeared to be no danger, Prophet scored a somewhat soft goal, and equalised. Each end was visited in turn after this, and another attack by the Athletic ended in one more surprise, Boath scoring somewhat easily, and putting the visitors one up. Half-time arrived with the Orion pressing, and the score standing: Forfar Athletic, 2 ; Orion, 1.

During the half-time interval collection boxes, in aid of the quarriers on strike, were passed round among the crowd, but the result did not seem to be specially satisfactory. Orion were the only team in the game most of the second half. Webster scored twice. The game ended: Orion, 3 ; Forfar Athletic, 2.

The Orion and Forfar Athletic match was the only League game down for decision, and by their victory Orion now top the table with 5 points. Forfar were exceedingly fortunate in getting two goals in the first half. They had not by any means the best of the play. Orion were weak at goal mouth. The second half told a different tale. It was only on rare occasions the visitors got past mid-field, and even then did not stop long. Souter, Athletics, saved his side from a big defeat.
