Venue: Cattofield, Aberdeen
The football season in Aberdeen opened last night, when an interesting game between an Association team, composed of members of the Aberdeen and Orion Football Clubs and the Victoria United Club took place at Cattofield. There was a large turnout of spectators, and the drawings are to be devoted to charity. The Orion officials, with their usual enterprise, have erected a large grandstand, but it is to be hoped that they will also set up a suitable press box outside the grandstand.

The teams were:- Association Team: Ritchie; J. Mackie, Brebner; Currie, Thomson, Brown; Willox, Davidon, C. Mackie, Grant, Shiach. Victoria United: Mitchell; Murphy, Craig; Murray, Stronach, Drummond; Knowles, Duncan, R. Ritchie, Burnett, G. Ritchie. Mr. John M. Melville was referee.

The United won the toss, and the Association team kicked off down the hill. The game was scarcely begun, when Shiach, accepting a pass from the right wing, beat Michell with a hot shot, close in. Nettled at this early reverse, he United woke up, and Ritchie was called upon to defend. A spell of end to end play followed. Once more the Stripes took up the running, and from a scrimmage in front of the United goal, C. Mackie placed his side two goals up. The Association team almost scored again but the Blues' defence prevailed. Again the Stripes got down, and Grantmade no mistake with his parting shot. Davidson added a fourth point immediately afterwards. Towards the close of the first half the United showed a marked improvement in their play, and Burnett succeeded in scoring. G. Ritchie next sent in sent in a shot which the Association custodian did not fist out until it was inside the net, but for some reason or other the referee did not allow the point.

On resuming, the United at once got down, and G. Ritchie scored a splendid goal. End to end play followed, and the game became somewhat rough. The decisions of the referee were not meeting with much favour by the spectators, and a considerable amount of jeering prevailed. The Stripes were awarded a penalty kick, and Willox easily scored. The rest of thee game was played in semi-darkness, and towards the close Grant scored a sixth goal for the Association team.
