Fleming Charity Shield Semi Final
28/04/1908

Aberdeen 4 - 0 Aberdeen University
Kick Off:    McKinlay, Wilson, Toman, McKinlay.
Attendance: 700
Venue: Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen
At Pittodrie last night before 700 spectators. Teams:-

Aberdeen: Mutch; Morgan, Brebner; Davidson, Simpson, Robertson; Macdonald, McKinley, Wilson, Toman, McDonald.
University: W. B. Thomson; Pearson, Paterson; Stuart, McLeod, K. Ross; MacEchern, Mitchell, McKenzie, A. W. Ross, Simpson.

The exchanges were fairly even at the commencement, both teams taking matters rather easily. The Aberdeen forwards swarmed round Thompson, and a faulty clearance by the custodian gave Aberdeen the lead, Mckinley putting through. The 'Varsity left wing carried the ball down upon Mutch, and Simpson, after getting round Davidson and Morgan, had a clear course for goal. J. J. Simpson rushed across the field and averted danger a kicking into touch. A fine return by Morgan was responsible for Aberdeen's second goal, Wilson beating Thompson at long range. Toman, in the inside left position was the most prominent player on the Aberdeen side. The 'Varsity were playing pretty football, but their style made no impression on the Aberdeen defence. A wing pass by Toman gave McDonald possession, and a perfect cross by the latter had only to be walked in by Toman. Aberdeen seemed contented with their lead, and play slackened somewhat until half-time, when the scores stood - Aberdeen, 3; University, 0.

Play was fast on resuming, Aberdeen pressing at once. Thomson was saving well, stopping many likely shots in masterly style. McKinley put on Aberdeen's fourth goal from 6 yards out. After this Aberdeen played an exhibition game, and with the University trying hard to score play was very interesting. The 'Varsity left wing forced a corner, and Mutch cleared. Aberdeen again took the game in hand, and Thomson and company had a warm time. Aberdeen had the upper hand until the end.
