Partick Thistle already held the upper hand over the Dons in the League having beaten them and drawn with them so the result of this tie was not a foregone conclusion.
It might have gone to a replay after Mathie equalised McCall's opener, but Willie Cooper scored a spectaular winner with a strike from thirty yards that dipped behind the visitor's keepr and settle the tie.
This game also marked the debut of South African Ray Botha.
