match report 1955-56 fixture list
Div 1 (Old)
Kilmarnock 1 - 0 Aberdeen
Kick Off:    Curlett 68
Attendance: 15,000
Venue: Rugby Park, Kilmarnock
Great display by Kilmarnock - wonderful goal gives home side victory. Don't you believe that! Kilmarnock were an ordinary side last Saturday but we will concede their goal was well taken. The plain fact is that the Dons played their worst game of the season. We lost only one goal but that was because the finishing of the home players was terrible. We did plenty of pressing - up to the penalty line. After that our players either lost control of the ball, passed to an opponent, or what was worst of all - went through the motions of shooting for goal by half-heartedly lobbing the ball in the general direction of the opposing goal. That criticism may jolt the Dons - it is meant to! Our players must get back on the rails - we know they have the ability - our lads must recapture that goal-hunger. They must shoot at every opportunity and a shot for goal must be delivered with timing and force - they must hit that ball as though they were putting into the effort all the hate and venom of which they are capable. And they must follow up! It's no use waiting to see if a goalkeeper is going to save, to find if a back is going to clear successfully. It's no use our players waiting to see what is going to happen - they must make things happen themselves.
