Fresh from their midweek Scottish Cup quarter-final replay success against Hibernian, Aberdeen met their future Scottish Cup semi-final opponents on a high. They also had the satisfaction of having scored 13 goals against United in the three earlier meetings that season. However a determined United outfit put on a superb defensive display to cause a shock result 'Keeper Davie was an inspiration for his side and although the Dons enjoyed the lions share of the play, even missing a second half penalty, it was the visitors who scored the solitary goal to send their small band of fans home in a delirious mood.
