Inverness CT 1 - 0 Aberdeen
Kick Off:  3:00 PM   Mann (70,pen)
Attendance: 2,256
Venue: Caledonian Stadium, Inverness
Spot of bother for Dons
There was no scoring in the opening 45 minutes at Inverness where Aberdeen faced Steve Paterson's old club, Inverness Caley Thistle. New signing Scott Booth had a half chance after only 8 minutes. Mackie put him through after he had dispossessed Mann but he failed to react quickly enough.

Paul Sheerin continued where he left off last season and looked very lively. He had a hat trick of chances in the first half. The best being a free kick which was well saved by the keeper. At the other end, captain for the day, David Preece was forced into one good stop in the opening 45 minutes when he saved well from Ritchie Hart.

After 51 minutes Paul Ritchie had the ball in the net for Inverness but it was ruled out for off-side. However the first division side were not to be denied and they took the lead in the 70th minute. New signing McQuilken was penalised for a trip inside the box on Darren Thompson and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Bobby Mann stepped up to fire the winner past Preece.

Aberdeen did have their chances in the second half. Scott Booth had a goal ruled out for off-side, Paul Sheerin chipped the ball through to give Mackie a chance but the Inverness keeper came out quickly to save well. Sheerin also had had a chance late on but his effort was touched over the bar.

Although it was a low key performance in this first friendly match of the season, Steve Paterson was philosophical after the game "I am disappointed with the result but the players have done a lot of running over the past two weeks to build up stamina and have not been doing much with the football. Performances will improve over the pre-season period. Our aim is to get the team ready for the 9th August and not the 19th July."
