The match which finally signaled the end of Roy Aitken's reign in charge at Pittodrie and one which all Dons fans will want to forget.

When Dean Windass received a yellow card inside 15 seconds for a rash challenge on Zetterlund, you just knew it was going to be another of 'these afternoons', and so it proved.

The game was finished as a contest by the 20th minute after United scored three times in as many minutes. Olofsson got the ball rolling with a header before Zetterlund crashed an unstoppable drive past Jim Leighton from 30-yards to make it two. McLaren, looking suspiciously offside, then put the issue beyond doubt before Windass hacked at Zetterlund again to earn himself an early bath.

The ten men brought on Darren Young for David Rowson at the interval and the second half began as the first had ended with Jim Leighton preventing the home team running up a cricket score.

Although Ricky Gillies and Joe Miller came on for Eoin Jess and Billy Dodds, it was almost inevitable that the home team would add to their tally and this they did with seven minutes remaining when Oloffson scored his second. Four minutes later the Dons humiliation was complete when teenager Craig Easton made it five.
