Aberdeen picked up all three points at Pittodrie, against title challengers Kilmarnock.
A dissapointing first half produced little entertainment for the 9,000 crowd.
The only real chances for the Dons were from Newell, Winters and Jess. The Newell
chance followed good work from Eoin Jess but Newell couldn't quite finish his
chance. Winters also came close following more good work from Jess. Jess himself
was unlucky early on, when he went close to beating Marshall in the Kilmarnock
goal.
The Dons finally broke the deadlock, right on half-time, when Eoin Jess scored
his 13th goal of the season, to make it 1-0 to the Dons. Ian Durrant cleared
a downward header from John Inglis off the line, before Jess took Mark Perry's
pass and turned to hit an angled shot into the corner.
The second half brought more entertainment, and Dons new boy Andreas Mayer
continued his good form when he scored his first goal on 47 minutes with a
looping header, to make it 2-0.
Alan Mahood scored a consolation for Kilmarnock on 66 minutes, and it looked
at that point, as if the game could have finished closely. However, Aberdeen
continued to play well and managed to hold on. The Dons even came close to
making it 3-1, but Ian Durrant was there to clear the ball off the line.
Paul Hegarty can be happy with the performance of the team, after the dissapointment
of the Rangers match last week.
