Rangers extended their lead at the top of the Scottish premier league to 7 points with a 3-1 victory over the Dons. Aberdeen took the game to Rangers at the beginning of the match, and were on top for a lot of the first half. The first real effort at goal for the Dons came when Jim Hamilton hit a 20-yard shot, but Stefan Klos held the ball well. 3 minutes later, on form Jess hit a thunderbolt shot which rattled the Rangers crossbar. The Dons kept up the pressure and got their reward when Mark Perry struck home a rebounded shot past the helpless Klos.

Rangers came back into the game after that goal and came close with a number of opportunities. Aberdeen had a penalty claim when Sergio Porrini looked to have hand-balled in the penalty area, but Referee Mike McCurry waved play on.
Rangers managed to get back into the game when Rod Wallace was brought down in the box by Derek Whyte, and the penalty was given. Gabriel Amato stepped up and sent Dons loan keeper Tony Warner the wrong way.

Rangers came out for the second half and immediately piled on the pressure. After 54 minutes, Andrei Kanchelskis made it 2-1 when his shot was deflected past Warner. 5 minutes later, the scoring was completed by Rod Wallace who was given the easy task of scoring his 19th league goal of the season. The Dons managed to prevent any further goals from Rangers, despite a missed chance for Neil McCann which seemed easier to score. The defeat means that the Dons are right back in the relegation dog-fight, and wins are vital in the coming weeks.
