Late Artero Goal Earns Dundee Win |
 |
Dundee defeated the Dons, after scoring with virtually the last kick of the ball
in a dour affair at Pittodrie. The result maintain's Jocky Scott's good away record with Dundee, who have now won on their last three visits to the North East. To add to the Dons misery, skipper Derek Whyte was sent off for a second bookable offence, leaving the Dons with just ten men for the final thirteen minutes of the match.
The first fifteen minutes amazingly produced no shots on goal, with neither Robert Douglas or ex-Scotland international Jim Leighton being tested. The first real chance fell to Luna of Dundee, but Jim Leighton produced an excellent save to deny the Spaniard the opener.
Moments later Rachid Balabed tried his luck with a dipping shot, but it went just over. Shortly afterwards, the youngster had another chance with a header, but when it looked easier to score, he missed the target. The best move of the first half fell to Andy Dow who cut inside and hit his shot just wide.
The second half generally followed the same pattern as the opener with neither side managing to rise above the mediocre. Derek Whyte was sent off in the 77th minute, when he was booked for the second time in the match, leaving the Dons with only ten men for the final part of the game. The game drifted towards its end, and it looked as though the Dons would get away with a draw. However three minutes into stoppage time, Artero scored for Dundee with a shot from the right leaving the Dons with no points and propping up the SPL, still seven points adrift of ninth place Kilmarnock.
