Dons Win ahead of Cup Final |
 |
Aberdeen won their last SPL game of the season, defeating Dundee 2-0 at Dens
Park. The Dons started brightly, but they created few chances of real note in
the opening 20 minutes. The first chance of the match ended with a goal, when
the Dens Parkers failed to clear a corner kick, allowing Arild Stavrum to stick
a foot out to make it 1-0 to the visitors with his twelvth goal of the season.
A difference of opinion between Hicham Zerouali and manager Ebbe Skovdahl
led to the influential playmaker being subsituted after only 40 minutes, to
be replaced by Robbie Winters.
Dundee came close to equalising when James Grady set up Luna, but his header
went just wide of the target.
The Dons continued to press the Dundee defence but couldn't get the all important
second goal.
With 62 minutes on the clock, Eoin Jess scored with a first time shot from
20 yards. A long kick from Leighton found a Winters head and the ball fell
to Jess who scored his 6th goal of the season.
There were few chances for either side from then on in, and the game finished
like a typical end-of-season affair.
Aberdeen now look forward to next week's cup final, off the back of two league
wins, and they hope to get the better of the league champions who were beaten
for only the second time this season, 2-0 at Motherwell.
