Ten man Dons dumped at Dens
Pasquinelli in action today before he limped off.Aberdeen suffered a red card for the second week running as an act of stupidity by Steven Craig cost the Dons dearly. Despite having the majority of the play the Dons conceded in the 57th minute with Diamond suffering from a head knock. Craig was then red carded after lashing out at match winner Barrett and although Dundee were hanging on at the end Aberdeen couldn't break through with Anderson going closest when he smashed the ball against the post in the 84th minute.

Aberdeen kicked off towards their own fans and went straight into attack with Pasquinelli heading a Severin free kick over the bar in the opening minute. A minute later the home side threatened when the Dons defence did not deal with a long throw in but keeper Esson eventually claimed the ball to clear the danger. A slip by Diamond in the 4th minute almost allowed Lovell in but fortunately Sutton failed to collect a pass and the danger was cleared. The home side then forced the opening corner in the 5th minute followed by the visitor's first corner a minute later. The set play saw Smith headed the ball off the line as the Dons went close to taking the lead. The underfoot conditions were proving to be tricky with several players slipping in the early stages.

Aberdeen went close again in the 11th minute when Anderson fired in a fierce shot from 18 yards that Soutar did well to save. Aberdeen had the upper hand at this stage and were forcing Dundee on to the back foot as Diamond forced a save from the keeper in the 15th minute. Five minutes later Soutar again rescued his side as he turned a Foster effort round the post as they continued to look for the breakthrough. Aberdeen won a controversial free kick in the 27th minute when Pasquinelli appeared to handle the ball. Anderson was again the target as Severin delivered the kick but the ball went wide. A minute later Dundee went forward but failed to test Esson in the Dons goal.

Chris Clark eases past Barrett at Dens Park. Aberdeen broke quickly on the half hour mark with Severin releasing Foster in acres of space. The cross was poor however and Dundee were able to scramble the ball clear. Barrett had the ball in the Dons net in the 33rd minute but he was clearly offside although it was a warning to the Dons that despite their dominance they could still be exposed at the back. A minute later Dundee had a well worked free kick scrambled clear by Diamond as the home side started to threaten. This was highlighted in the 36th minute when Esson was forced to turn a Sutton effort round the post as Aberdeen were forced back.

A minute later Anderson's defending denied Lovell after the forward had been released by Caballero. Pasquinelli then limped off in the 39th minute to be replaced by Steven Craig. Barrett went close for the home side in the 43rd minute with an attempt from distance. Two minutes later Clark tested Soutar again and the keeper did well to hold the ball with Mackie in close attendance. In the closing seconds Aberdeen threatened again but the Dark Blue men held out.

Both sides exchanged attacks at the start of the second half with neither threatening the goal. Aberdeen then took control again but were let down by the final ball into the box. Aberdeen then suffered another worry when Diamond clashed with Barrett and picked up a nasty head knock. Fortunately the young defender was able to continue after treatment. The Dons continued to frustrate as they looked good going forward only to be let down by poor deliveries. Mackie did test Soutar in the 57th minute with a long-range effort before Dundee grabbed the lead with a one-two on the edge of the box that Barret finished by drilling low past Esson.

Craig is ordered off at DensAberdeen immediately replaced the injured Diamond with Muirhead as Heikkinen moved back into the defence. Clark went close to equalising in the 64th minute when he skipped forward and fired inches wide of the post before Dundee counter attacked and Anderson forced Sutton wide forcing him to shoot into the side netting. Calderwood used his last substitute when he put Stewart on to replace Foster then for the second week running Aberdeen were reduced to ten men when Craig was ordered off after lashing out at Barrett. A minute later Mackie went close as the Dons found themselves up against it.

Good build up play set up Severin in the 72nd minute but Soutar held the effort easily as the Dons tried to exploit Dundee with their pace. A Severin throw three minutes later produced a corner that was eventually scrambled clear after Aberdeen laid siege to the Dundee goal. Dundee then broke forward and Brady should have finished the game but scooped the ball into the hands of Esson before Aberdeen counter attacked and Mackie wasted an opportunity to level. The Dons won another corner in the 80th minute but there was no way through the Dark Blue line. Soutar again saved from Clark two minutes later as the Dons pressed for an equaliser.

Another corner was forced in the 84th minute and after a goalmouth scramble Anderson crashed the ball off the post as it increasingly looked like it wasn't to be the Dons' day. The Dons looked to have levelled in the 89th minute when a strong Mackie run almost forced a defender to turn the ball into his own net. Two subsequent corners produced saves from Soutar to deny the Dons a deserved goal and Deep in injury time Mackie had a fresh air swipe as Severin delivered another telling cross. Once again it wasn't to be the Dons day and the gap to fourth place was closed to one point as Hibs grabbed a winner in stoppage time.
