Gilli Sorensen in action this afternoon

Aberdeen u19s crashed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to St Mirren at Balgownie this afternoon.

The home side started the game well and Hallur Hansson had a very early chance but slipped at the crucial moment as he was away to shoot. Then Mitch Megginson forced the keeper into a save.

On the half hour mark there was a major blow for the young Dons as captain Scott Ross had to leave the field with illness. Shortly after that the visitors took the lead through McLean.

Neil Cooper obviously had a few words with his players during the half time interval as Aberdeen started the second half brightly and played with a much higher tempo. They had a number of efforts on goal. First a cross from Bolger on the right was missed the by the keeper but also just missed by everyone in a red jersey.

Then Gilli Sorensen, playing his first game since returning to the club last month, hit a powerful shot which looked bound for the top hand corner but the keeper pulled off a fine save to touch the ball over.

Next up with a chance was Mitch Megginson who was put through. He tried to chip the keeper but did not get his effort high enough and the keeper saved comfortably.

Just as it looked like the Dons would get back into the game St Mirren broke forward and got a killer second. A mistake at the back allowed in McLean who strolled forward and hit a powerful shot past Bain.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Aberdeen and the Saints added a third when Bain failed to hold a shot and Burns was first to react at the keepers feet to put the ball home.

Aberdeen kept pushing forward and had a number of half chances, the best of which fell to Mitch Megginson but he headed over.

Among the healthy crowd was Scotland u19 and u21 coach Billy Stark and u21 goalkeeping coach Jim Leighton.
