At Pittodrie last night, Aberdeen qualified to meet Dundee or Falkirk in the final of the Dewar Shield competition by defeating St Johnstone by 2 goals to 1. There were about 5000 spectators, and these witnessed a closely contested game between two well-matched teams. In the earlier stages of the first half Aberdeen had the better of the exchanges, and were unfortunate when Smith sent against the woodwork. St Johnstone improved, and, after Dickie had crossed, Munn headed through a ball which took Blackwell by surprise. Until the interval St Johnstone played better football, and had no great difficulty in retaining their lead.
In the second half Aberdeen rallied, and the Perth defence was kept on the stretch. Midway through the period R. Bruce got through to equalise with a swift, low shot, and shortly afterwards Hutton completely deceived Page with a free kick from the touchline about fifty yards from goal. This proved to be the winning- goal, but both goals had several narrow escapes. On the home side Hutton, Bruce (D.), Spencer, Jackson, Cheyne, Miller, and Bruce (R.) were best; and for St Johnstone, Penman, McGuire, McBain, Swallow, Munro, and Chalmers were most prominent.
