Spoils Shared against Danes
A crowd of over seven thousand braved the elements to see the Dons draw with Danish cracks Brondby at Pittodrie. Dons boss Ebbe Skovdahl fielded a strong side for the meeting with his former club eager to maintain the fine form the Dons had shown during their previous two friendly games against Munich 1860 whilst on a training stint in Spain.

In a quiet first half with both sides struggling against the horrendous conditions, both Aberdeen's Arild Stavrum, and Brondby's Magnus Svensson thought that they had given their respective teams the lead but found their efforts ruled out for offside. The Dons were forced to replace midfielder Cato Guntveit with Moroccan Rachid Belabed in the twenty-fifth minute when the Norwegian picked up an ankle injury after a late tackle by Svennson. The Danish side took the lead in the thirty-first minute through a bizarre strike. Thomas Lindrup whipped in a deadly cross from a corner kick, which with the assistance of the wind, evaded Dons keeper Ryan Esson and crossed the goal line. This was the second goal the young Dons keeper had lost direct from a corner in the space of a week, having been beaten by Munich 1860 star Thomas Hassler.

The second half saw a flurry of changes for the Dons with David Preece replacing Ryan Esson, Andy Dow replacing Chris Clark, and David Lilley replacing Kevin McNaughton who was taken off as a precaution for the weekend trip to Alloa. The play continued in much the same manner as the first half with each side struggling to create chances. The Dons went in search of an equaliser leaving them open to counter attacks from Brondby's quick forwards. Aberdeen equalised in the 87th minute through substitute Rachid Belabed. Andy Dow fired in a cross which the Danes failed to clear, the ball broke to BELABED who fired in a sweet left-foot shot from the edge of the penalty box which flew past Brondby's impressive goalkeeper Mogens Krogh.

In the dying seconds of the match the visitors almost stole victory when Peter Grauland had his effort magnificently saved by David Preece. Each side left the field to a warm round of applause from the home support eagerly anticipating the pending return of competitive action with the trip to Scottish Cup hopefuls Alloa Athletic.
