One of the most interesting events of Association football in Aberdeen took place on Saturday, when the first round in the Cup ties was played off. There is no doubt that the intimation of Dr Moir's trophy has given a considerable fillip to the game in this city, and now its popularity is so great that it may be said to be fast encroaching on cricket.
The contest for the Cup is confined to clubs in the Aberdeenshire Football Association, a body which was formed for the first time this year. There are twelve clubs in the Association, and the drawing for the first round - which was carried out on precisely the same principles as those of the Scottish Football Association - resulted in the following teams being pitted against each other :-Aberdeen v. Albert (at Holburn), Balmoral v. Our Boys (at Duthie Park), Granite City v. Rangers (at Central Park), Caledonian v. Black Diamonds (at Links), Port Elphinstone v. Rovers (at Port Elphinstone).
