The Aberdeen 10 - 0 Black Diamonds
Kick Off:    Ketchen 2, McGookin 2, Smith 2, Clark 2, Christie 2
Attendance: 0
Venue: Chanonry, Aberdeen
Teams representing the above met for the first time this season to play off a friendly fixture at Chanonry grounds. The weather was favourable, but bitterly cold. Aberdeen won the toss, and elected to play with the wind and sun in their favour. During the first half all the best play was on the part of the ground team, the Diamonds, who showed themselves to be inferior to their last year's form, managing matters very badly. Their forward play was the only commendable feature of the game. Watson did some excellent work, and had he indulged in less short passing - clever, it must be admitted, but entirely misplaced when the team is incapable of picking it up - better results might have been obtained. In quick succession Ketchen, McGookin, and Smith scored for Aberdeen, and when half-time was called the two former players had two goals each to their credit, while Smith had one goal, bringing the total to 5 as against nothing. It was expected that in the second period, with the atmospheric conditions in their favour, the Black Diamonds would show to the front. But these expectations were grievously belied, and though they had one or two looks-in, their opponents on every occasion proved too much for them. On the other hand goal after goal fell to the Aberdeen, and had time been extended for a short time longer, there is no saying what the result would have been. As it was, a disappointingly one-sided game ended: Aberdeen, 10 goals; Black Diamonds, 0. In the second three-quarters the goal takers were: Clark, Christie (2), and Smith.
