Montrose 2 - 1 Victoria United
Kick Off:    Cairncross, ?       ?

Venue: Links Park, Montrose
Good Show of the Vics, at Montrose.
This friendly match was played at Montrose before a large crowd of spectators. The teams were: Victoria United - Goal, Gray ; backs, Milne and Ririe; half-backs, Cruickshank, Hickie, and Hamilton; forwards, Turner, A. N. Other, Sutherland, Annand and Ferries. Montrose: Goal, Bowman; backs, G. Bowman and Buchanan; half-backs, Duncan, Gordon and Burgess; forwards, Cairncross, Falconer, Murray, J. Burgess, and Keillor. The home team played against a stiff breeze, of which the blues took every advantage. Montrose, however, played a stubborn resistance, but not, to be denied the strangers got to the south and notched the first point. Montrose played up after this and had hard lines, Gray playing grandly in goal for Aberdeen. From a fine pass from Keillor, Cairncross smartly shot through, but at half-time the game was equalised. The second period was not long begun, when Montrose took the lead. Some loose play followed, Montrose giving Gray plenty of work, which, how¬ever, he did magnificently. The final result was: Montrose 2, Victoria 1.

With a weak team the Victoria United gave the Montrose a downright fright on their own ground. The Aberdonians got defeated by 2 goals to 1, but had they had their full team the result would have been the other way about. It takes a gocd lot to lower the colours of Keillor's men, and it was a decidedly meritorious performance of the Vics, to give them such a close run up with their scratch combination. Gray fills Cannon's place admirably, and is in better form now than ever he was. The new grounds of the blues will be ready in three week's time, and once they get fairly settled in their new quarters there is every likelihood of their becoming as formidable as they were last year. Good luck to them.
