Archie arrived at Pittorie on Boxing Day 1947 in an exchange deal with Hearts, George Hamilton going the other way. The deal was regarded at the time as a Scottish record.
A player with a strong shot and a consistent goal-scorer. Transferred to Motherwell for a reputed £7000 in November 1949.
