Profile: |
Full name: William David Young.
The towering figure of Willie Young was easily recognised wherever Aberdeen were playing and not a few forwards would have felt intimidated at having to face uo to this uncompromising centre-half. Unfortunately for Willie, his best remebered moment with the Dons came in what turned out to be his final Aberdeen game. Incensed at being substituted against Dundee United, he peeled off his shirt and threw it at manager Jimmy Bonthrone in the dugout, storming off down the track and out of the stadium. He was sold to Tottenham Hotspur a week later for a profitable £100,000.
After retiring from football Willie became a publican near Nottingham for many years and later took over kennels in Leicestershire.
