ABERDEEN'S NEW HALFBACK
Herbert Currer, Aberdeen's new halfback from South Africa, is expected to arrive next week. The following is an extract from a South African Sunday newspaper:- There is no doubt that "Herby" Currer should prove a great acquisition to Aberdeen. He is a seasoned performer, an intelligent schemer, and is equally good in defence or attack. Of the triangular formation no one knows more than Currer, and Aberdeen are fortunate to secure the services of so polished and so young a player. "Herby" is a product of Arcadia football, and it is debatable whether he could have got a chance so early in his career with any other club. But Arcadia are, firm believers that age - young or old - is no bar. Thus it was that, when players of his age were considered almost too young for the under eighteen team, "Herby" was playing for the senior sides and helping the club to win the Transvaal League. He was only sixteen years of age at that time.

FORMER DONS FOOTBALLER
Among the passengers on board the Dunbar Castle [sunk by a German mine en route to South Africa] was Herbert Currer, the former Aberdeen footballer. Currer may be described as Scotland's unluckiest footballer.
He came to Aberdeen from Springs, Transvaal, and played his first game for Aberdeen reserves against St Mirren "A" at Paisley in December, 1936. A half-back. Currer early in his career received a knee injury which kept him off for some time.
He recovered, but early last season again broke down and has never since been able to kick a football. Tall and well built, Currer was a player of promise. He left Aberdeen on December 30.
