"Became the Dons' regular inside right, but in season 1960/1961 took over at centre forward with success. Clever and possessing a good shot in both feet. Keen student of the game."

Billy was a regular in the Dons' first team over several seasons and by the end of his twelve years at Pittodrie had become one of the club's all time top goalscorers with 97 in all competitions.

Obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of Aberdeen in 1966.
