Orion 1 - 1 Dundee A
Kick Off:    Grant       Anderson
Attendance: 36
Venue: Cattofield, Aberdeen
A match between these teams was played at Cattofield, Aberdeen, the teams being as follows: Dundee: Douglas; McCulloch, Watson; Macdonald, Duff, Halkett; Moir, Bain, Anderson, J. Halkett, H. Stewart. Orion: McHattie; Strang, Gammie, Carrie, Craigmyle, Craig, Grant, Clark, Barron, McKernan, Flynn. There were drizzling showers during the afternoon, and the field, owing to the heavy rain, was very muddy, causing the players often to slip, and rendering play, as a whole, somewhat slow. Anderson, the Dundee centre forward, with a capital shot, secured the first, and only goal during the first half. Early in the second period Dundee secured a comer, but made nothing by it. For the next quarter of an hour the players made strenuous efforts to force the ball through the mud, occasionally getting near the goals at either end, but scientific play was at a premium. The enthusiasm of the spectators was, however, roused by a brilliant piece of play on the part of Clark and Grant. The former made a fine dash up the right wing, and passed to Grant, who immediately landed a stinging shot in the net, thus equalising the score.

We experienced the worst of weather on Saturday last for football. In the early morning it was all right, but as the day advanced the rain came down in torrents, and completely spoiled all hope of football for the afternoon. The consequence was that in the city one club cried "off," while the others went on with their fixture - the gate at which would not have paid their checkers. Cattofield is not an ideal ground in wet weather - for that matter, neither is any of the city grounds - but on Saturday we never saw it looking so wretched. The wretchedness was contagious for it spread to the thirty-six spectators who witnessed the game. Under the circumstances good football was not to be expected, and it was not shown. The game, however, was no: taken seriously by the players, and though at times some good play crept into the game the players never exerted themselves. The first half lasted 30 minutes, during which Dundee scored 1, the Orion failing to notch a point.

If the first half was short the second was shorter, less than 30 minutes sufficing to satisfy both teams, during which time the Orion managed to score and equalise the game. The clubs made a mistake in ever turning out, the Orion especially so in view of their fixture on Saturday first.
