Peterhead 8 - 2 Victoria United
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Recreation Park, Peterhead
These teams met in a friendly fixture in the Recreation Park, Peterhead, on Saturday. The weather was fine, and there was a good turnout of spectators. Mr A. Cordiner was referee. Victoria United kicked off towards the Crescent goal, but almost immediately after the start Peterhead began to press. The home forwards quite outplayed their opponents, and scored twice in the first quarter of an hour. Soon after Smith, from a penalty kick, notched another point for Peterhead. The strangers only managed to score twice during the whole game, and at half-time the score stood: Peterhead, 6; Victoria United, 2. On restarting the game be-came more even, until about the last ten minutes, when Peterhead scored twice, thus winning by 8 goals to 2.

By no stretch of imagination could the team that did duty for the Vics on Saturday be called the "class" team. With so much hard work in front of the players, the committee were well advised in only sending out a scratch team. All the same the heavy defeat did not go down with their supporters, and the murmurs of discontent were frequent and loud on Satur-day night in the places where the Vics most do congregate. The Vics players evidently had an idea that they would be badly beaten, for from the outset they never made much effort, and long before they had secured their first goal, the Peterhead had managed to score 4. If the first half had been uninteresting the second period was doubly so, enlivened only by an attempt on the part of the Vics towards the finish to reduce the large leeway against them. But the effort was of no use, and the worst game seen at Peterhead this season ended in a win for the locals by 8-2. The Vics supporters need not be down-hearted over the match. The team are fully alive to the hard work that lies before them before the season closes, and are fully determined to make a good fight for the trophies that have still to be played for.
