At Cattofield on Saturday afternoon, in wet and miserable weather, the Orion and Victoria United teams engaged in a friendly match, before a fair turnout of spectators. The teams were:- Orion: McBean; Willox, Brebner; Currie, Low, Wright; Prophet, Fraser, Laurie, Wilson, Jardine. Victoria United: Murray; Kilgour, Craig; Bremner, A. Murray, R. Ritchie; Davidson, Thain, Thom, Ferries, G. Ritchie.
Orion won the toss, and the United kicked off up the incline. Thom was early presented with a fine chance to score, but he shot strongly past. Orion next got down, and forced the first corner, which, however, came to nothing. From a scrimmage in front of the Orion goal, the United opened the scoring. Just before half-time Low sent in a long shot, which Murray failed to clear, and thus equalised.
On resuming Orion got into close quarters, and forced a corner, from which the ball was rushed into the net. Shortly afterwards, the United, fro good passing tactics, got down, and Thom once more equalised. Both teams now strove hard for the lead, and shortly before the close, Low set in another long shot, which took effect. A poor game ended as follows:- Orion 3, Victoria United 2.
