Elgins' Plucky Fight
Although leaving the field victors by four goals to one over Elgin City at Elgin in a Highland League fixture on Saturday, Aberdeen A did not deserve to win by that margin, and the score is in no way an index of the run of play. During three-fourths of the game the play was entirely monopolised by the home team, who, if more confidence in steadiness had been displayed when near goal, would undoubtedly have reversed the ultimate result. In defence the Aberdeen 11 was sound, but forward scrappy. Taylor was the pick of the line, with Milne and McIntosh perhaps next best. The centre showed his usual hustling abilities, but at times appeared to be to flurried, and missed what appeared to be easy openings. On play he deserved two-goal which fell to his credit. All over, the different departments of the Elgin team worked with harmony, and there was little to choose among the players, although Asher and Gair especially merit attention for exhibitions of clever football. The draw would have been a fairer representation of the contest.
