DONS SHOULD HAVE STRONG TEAM |
 |
HOPES are high that Aberdeen F.C. will play a prominent part in the North-Eastern League competition. The form shown in the trial game at Pittodrie on Saturday was most satisfactory, and the signs are that, the Dons will be able to field a strong team.
Aberdeen's latest signings - Lyon (Celtic), Donaldson (Hearts) and McCall (Nottingham Forest) - all made impressive debuts. The Hearts winger was the outstanding forward afield and revealed himself as a fast and dangerous raider.
Other players in the "Probables" side who impressed were McLeod, the former East Fife and Manchester City inside-forward, Johnstone and Dunlop.
"PROBABLES" WIN
The "Probables" included players who are likely to turn out regularly for the Dons. They held a 4-1 lead at the interval, but in the second-half the forward lines were changed over and this certainly made a difference. Gemmell came in for Gilbert in the "Possibles" attack.
"Possibles" were soon on level terms, but a late goal by Hunter gave "Probables" victory.
Best in the "Possibles" side were Thomson. Ewing, the right-wing pair, Cheape and Dempsey, and Walls.
SCORERS
Scorers:- "Probables" - Bain, McLeod, Dunlop, McCall and Hunter; "Possibles" - Walls, Taylor (2) and McLeod. It is understood that Aberdeen have asked permission of Manchester City to play McLeod, and they are also interested in Walls, Cowdenbeath and Clewlow, a forward who has played for Wolves.
