Triumph for Team Work
Dunfermline did a lot of pressing against the Dons last week and by the noise from the terracing one might have been fooled into the belief that the home players were unfortunate to lose. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Certainly Fred Martin had a lot to do and did it well, but most of the shots were long range efforts and only on one occasion could it be said he was fortunate to be in the "line of fire."
To balance that the Dons had one effort that just missed the post with the goal-keeper well beaten, and another effort that crashed against the underside of the crossbar and bounced up from the goal-line - also a "gift" from about two yards range was refused.
The Aberdeen efforts carried menace all the time - Dunfermline used plenty of endeavour, had little skill and seldom looked dangerous.
With seven league games to play, five of them away from home and the other two against Celtic and Rangers, the Athletic may find the task of gathering safety points very difficult indeed. Their fight at Ayr today may prove a pointer.
