Struggling Aberdeen couldn't have been looking forward to this confrontation with third placed Hibernian, for after 3 consecutive league defeats the Dons confidence and morale were almost non existent. However the break of the ball, or rather a badly positioned linesman allowed an offside looking Dave Johnston to run in on goal and open the scoring after nine minutes. Fourteen minutes later a rampant Dons outfit were three ahead and making a mockery of the league positions. Hibs were having one of those days when nothing was going right and seldom had so many of their quality players been off form at the same time. Two late goals by Aberdeen completed the rout, with the Hibees captain Joe Davis typifying his side's fortunes by missing a second half penalty.
