Aberdeen in Full Control |
 |
Aberdeen should have no problems in the second leg of their UEFA Cup tie against Finn Harps in Ballybofey in a fortnight.
Once Bertie Miller shot them into the lead in 32 minutes of last night's game at Pittodrie, they were in control of the situation. Goals by Jarvie on 36 minutes and Graham two minutes later shattered Irish hopes.
Although the Finn Harps players were full of fight, their courageous, but predictable, approach posed few problems for the Aberdeen defence.
Compared with full-time Aberdeen, the part-time Irish side were slower in going for the ball and short of running power in possession. The one criticism that can be levelled at the home team is the fact that they added only one goal to the 3-0 interval lead, through Jarvie eight minutes from time.
In the second half they lost their sense of urgency and, instead of capitalising on their undoubted superiority in teamwork and pace, they indulged in unprofitable embroidery.
Aberdeen had cause to regret their complacency three minutes from the end when they allowed Harkin, the Finn Harps inside left, to penetrate their defence and pull one back.
