Jess Hits First Goal in the SPL |
 |
The Dons opened their Scottish Premier League campaign with an impressive 2-0
win at Dens Park.
Eoin Jess opened the scoring with what proved to be the first ever goal in
the new set-up. Craig Hignett started the move with a pass to Billy Dodds,
who, in turn, knocked the ball to Jess, who rounded keeper Douglas before putting
the ball into the net.
Three minutes later Hignett, impressive in his first competitive outing for
his new club, added the second when Russell Anderson's cross was flicked on
by Mike Newell to the former Middlesbrough man who hit a fierce right foot
shot past the keeper.
The home side were awarded a soft penalty in the 43rd minute when Gary Smith
was judged to have fouled Adamczuk. However, Jim Leighton produced a fine save
from Coyne's effort diving to his right to turn the ball round the post.
The only sour note of the game was Mike Newell suffering a leg injury when
fouled by Pounewatchy, who was booked for the tackle. At present, it's too
early to say the extent of the injury.
