Despite close chances for both teams, neither could get the second goal of the match. Gary Mcswegan came closest for United on a few ocassions, but he couldn't find a way through. As the game went into the final five minutes, Aberdeen pressed for the equaliser, and a Gary Smith header hit the post with three minutes remaining.
