Aberdeen were knocked out of the Scottish Cup at the 3rd round stage after being
defeated 1-0 at home to Livingstone. It was ex Hearts hitman John Robertson who
got the only goal of the game, he brilliantly struck home from distance after
61 minutes. Despite winning 2 corners in the first 3 minutes of the game, the Dons never really got out of first gear in the match, and overall the visitors deserved their victory.
Winters, Whyte and Newell all came close with headers, but none of them could get past Livingstone keeper Neil Alexander. Robbie Winters close range header was perhaps the closest the Dons came to a goal, but his goal-bound effort was superbly stopped on the line by Alexander.
Newell's header was a poor one, and he missed when it looked easier to score. Livingston started playing the better football after the initial Dons onslaught, and they continued to do so for the full 90 minutes. Livingston came close just before the break when David Bingham was through on goal, but the assistant referee raised his flag to call it offside.
Livingstone never really looked like losing their lead throughout the second half, and indeed they held on to go into the 4th round of the cup.
