Dons Defeated Despite Early Lead |
 |
The Dons went down fighting at Ibrox in this tense, taught encounter. The defending
champions started brightly with Chris Clark forced to clear a Neil McCann corner
off the line with Mols waiting to pounce. However, the Dons were giving as good
as they were getting and in the 10th minute Arild Stavrum silenced the Ibrox
crowd, sending the travelling Red Army into raptures. A Chris Clark corner was
somehow allowed to come right across the face of goal to STAVRUM who gleefully
prodded it over the line from four yards.
With their tails up, the youthful Dons pushed forward looking for a second
but the home side hit back with a goal Ryan Esson will want to forget. A Scott
Wilson flick from an De Boer corner squirmed out of Esson's hands with MOLS
on hand to knock the ball over the line from little more than a yard.
Mols should have added a second less than a minute later when he hit the bar
from four yards out.
In the second half, substitute Billy DODDS put the champions ahead when he
deflected a Barry Ferguson effort past Esson. Robbie Winters should have brought
the Dons but his headed effort from an Andy Dow cross went wide.
With the Dons pushing for an equaliser Jorg ALBERTZ put the result beyond
doubt when he lashed the ball high past Esson after good build up play by Dodds.
