Dundee Double Earns Top Six Place for Dens Men |
 |
Dundee defeated Aberdeen at Pittodrie this afternoon, and amazingly reached the
top six of the SPL, thanks to Kilmarnock beating Dunfermline. On the day the
Dons never really got going, and didn't come anywhere near to reproducing the
performance of wednesday night against Dundee's neighbouring club.
Dundee had their first chance in the 6th minute when Fabian Cabellero chipped
Ryan Esson, but Norwegian defender Thomas Solberg was there to clear the ball.
Aberdeen had a chance in the 12th minute, Robbie Winters brilliantly played
wednesday night's hero Arild Stavrum through on goal, but the big striker hit
it wide. Juan Sara had a great opportunity to score in the 20th minute but his
effort
rebounded off the post.
The sides went in 0-0 at the break, and it wasn't until the 52nd minute that
the deadlock was broken. GEORGE NEMSADZE found space and fired into the
net past the helpless Ryan Esson, giving the away side a well earned lead.
Dundee
made it 2-0 11 minutes later when comeback striker FABIEN CABELLERO hit
a deflected shot past Esson.
The Dons had one last opportunity to get back into the match, Robbie Winters
had a chance to score with a header from only 6 yards out, but he missed
the ball completely.
