Forward Change

Lyon, who captained the Dons, switched the inside forwards, McLeod partnering Donaldson and Bain joining Taylor. This made a difference, and when McCall opened their scoring account, the team clicked into top gear and they finished good winners. On this display the Dons have the makings of a good team once the players settle down. The defence was sound with Lyon outstanding. The Celtic centre-half revealed a fine positional sense and his smart interceptions broke up many Raith Rovers raids. Gall paid his way.

Good Partnership

McCall and McLeod struck up a first-rate partnership in the first half. The inside forward was seen at his best, however, when he joined Donaldson on the right wing, and this partnership laid the foundations for victory. Raith Rovers favour tearaway tactics. Their defence put up a plucky display, and their outstanding player was Martin, left-half. Murray at centre-half also did a lot of good work. Falconer was a nippy leader and McNaught at inside-left showed some fine touches.

Rovers' Goals

Rovers opened the scoring three minutes after the start of the game, when Rougvie lobbed the ball into the goalmouth. Johnstone only partially cleared, and Falconer fastened on to send into the net. Twelve minutes after the interval Johnstone pushed out a corner from Duncan and McNaught headed into the nest to increase the home lead.
The Aberdeen blitzkrieg started when McCall scored for Aberdeen with a hard drive. Two minutes later McLeod levelled the scores from a cross from Taylor, and in the closing minutes Donaldson netted from a pass from Walls and McCall sent home a fourth.
