Johnstone Was Dons' Only Star |
 |
Aberdeen gave a puerile display against St Johnstone at half. As a matter of fact the result does not truly reflect the winners' superiority. The Dons were rocky in defence and the attack was disjointed and inept.
The only Aberdeen player who took any credit from the game was Johnstone, the keeper. But for his sound work the Dons would have been beaten more decisively. The ground a fine display by saving a penalty from Cook just before the interval. 11 minutes after the start saints took the lead when Lorimer flicked a pass from Cook into the net.
Biggs and Strauss changed places in the Aberdeen attack in the second half, former having a foot injury. With 21 minutes played Lorimer headed a cross from Hird into the net, and 13 minutes from the finish Cook scored with a header from a corner from Hird.
