Dons' Good Start in Regional League |
 |
ABERDEEN made a good start to the Scottish Regional League tournament on Saturday. They were well worth their four-goal victory.
Despite the fact that the eleven was practically composed of reserve players they were well ahead of the Rovers both as a defensive and as an attacking force.
The visitors indulged in long-range shooting and made the task of the Dons' defence easy. Cooper was the best back afield and Waddell, showing grand positional sense, took the honours half back. Bain, an improving inside forward with the right ideas, vied with Ferguson as the best forward.
For Raith Rovers Moodie played well in goal, and Low was another stalwart in defence. Smith and Till were the only forwards to reveal any enterprise.
FIRST BLOOD
The Dons took the lead in four minutes through Taylor from a penalty and in nineteen minutes Williams added a second. Near the interval Smith reduced the leeway from a spot kick.
Shortly after the restart Smith, the Dons' right winger, cut in to beat Moodie. Pattillo netted from a cross from Williams and a few minutes from the finish Williams notched a fifth goal after Bain had struck the upright.
