GREAT RECOVERY BY DONS SAVES GAME AT COATBRIDGE
Aberdeen have a great chance of going forward to the second round of the Cup competition. Thanks to a splendid recovery at Coatbridge on Saturday, they require to win by only one goal at Pittodrie this week to enter the next stage.

Twenty minutes from the finish of Saturday's match at Cliftonhill the Dons' hopes had practically evaporated. They were three goals in arrears and their play did not suggest a recovery.
Two factors aided Aberdeen t save the game. Albion Rovers tried to augment their lead instead of concentrating on holding it, and Ferguson scored for Aberdeen.

NEW LIFE IN TEAM

This goal put new life into the team. The attack, which had been disjointed and ineffective, became united, and when a second goal was netted the clouds had lifted. The equaliser came with practically the last kick of the match.
Kelly, on leave from the RAF, put up a good display in the Dons' goal, while Anderson, who was playing his last game, also showed up well. Jock Thomson was the pick of the half-backs, and Smith was most prominent in attack. Pattillo did not set the heather on fire, but he took his goals well.
Waddell and McLetchie were best in the Albion Rovers' defence and Dengan and Linden, the extreme wingers, were dangerous raiders throughout.

THE GOALS

The only goal of the first half came five minutes from the interval, and was the result of a faulty pass back by George Thomson. The ball never reached Kelly. Burke was on it like a flash and although his first shot struck the 'keeper he scored at the second attempt.
Fourteen minutes after the interval the home team increased their lead. When a header by Burke struck the cross-bar Dempsey came running in to breast the ball into the net.
The third goal came in twenty-four minutes. Burke went barging through on his own and scored after beating Waddell and Graham.
Then came two quick goals for the Dons. Ferguson got the first when he sent home a cross from Williams and Pattillo a minute later took the ball off Beath and smartly cut it into the net off the crossbar.
The equalising goal came in the last minute. Pattillo picked up a cross from Williams and ran through to find the net with a grounder.
