Even Game At Pittodrie
Although the game at Pittodrie between Elgin City and Aberdeen "A" under Aberdeen and District auspices ran on pretty even lines, it would have been more than their due had the men from the north gone home with both points. As it was they left a very favourable impression in the minds of local sportsmen, both by the virility of their play and the fine understanding shown by the team as a whole. On account of other sporting attractions the gate was a small one, only about 1000 Spectators being present.
In the first half the lighter-built Elgin players found the hard but slippery pitch more to their liking than the more robust homesters did, and they had the better of the exchanges throughout most of the period. They were the first to score through W. Mackenzie, the outside left but before the interval, a mistake by the Elgin right back enabled Morrison, the new Aberdeen centre to score the equaliser, after Bruce had missed a penalty kick.
In the second half, the Aberdeen halves got a better grip of the game, and Morrison put them ahead with a fine first-time effort. Towards the close the Elgin men got a well-deserved equaliser off a penalty for hands. Best for Aberdeen were Bruce, Armstrong Forbes, and Ritchie while for Elgin, Raitt, Scott, Clayton. and W. Mackenzie were outstanding.
