League Championship For Buckie Thistle
There was a large attendance at Victoria Park, Buckie, last night when Buckie Thistle and Aberdeen "A " met in the deciding match for the championship of the Aberdeenshire League. The game resulted in a victory for the Thistle by three goals to one.
Aberdeen pressed at the start, but the Thistle defence was equal to the occasion, and repulsed all attacks, although a shot from Spalding went narrowly past. Dickie was prominent for Buckie, and following a run this player, J. McIntosh tested Cunningham with a header. Buckie forced a corner, and following this, Middleton scored. Offside spoiled several efforts by Buckie. Aberdeen again pressed, but were weak in front goal. Mutch had a fine try, which just missed. The Thistle forwards were the smarter lot, and from a combined effort Dickie registered a brilliant goal. Aberdeen attacked after this, and before the interval Paton reduced the leeway.
Buckie were the first to press in the second period, but Aberdeen took up the running, and gave the home defence a hot time. Geddes and Garden, however, were most reliable, and the visiting forwards trifled too much near goal. Spalding was almost shooting in when Wood nipped the ball from his feet. A fine run by Dickie ended in his scoring from close range. Aberdeen tried hard to make headway, but were well held by the home defence, and what was acknowledged to be the best game of the season ended in Buckie winning by three goals to one.
