Aberdeen 2 - 3 Scottish Junior Select
Kick Off:    Donaldson, McCall 46.       Bruce 44 (pen), Stead, Hay 75
Attendance: 0
Venue: Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen
Although only five regular players appeared in the Aberdeen team, the Junior Select thoroughly deserved their win at Pittodrie. The Juniors favoured go-ahead tactics while the Dons forwards wanted to walk the ball into the net. McCall and Donaldson in the Aberdeen side played clever football, but they were afraid to shoot. Lyon was the only regular who played to form.

Hard Worker

Jeffrey (Aberdeen Juniors), in the Aberdeen attack, had the right idea. He worked untiringly, but he might have been luckier with his finishing. Cruickshank, another local junior, was a nippy winger. He was a continual thorn in the flesh of the Juniors' right back. Dickinson (Accrington Stanley) had a bad day. He was no match for Ireland and Pacione on the Juniors' right wing. They were the most dangerous men in a smart front line. The Juniors' defence was steady. They had a great keeper in Dunbar, who brought off some magnificent saves.

The Scoring

The Juniors took the lead from a penalty close on the interval. Bruce giving Walker no chance. Immediately after the resumption there came a spate of scoring - three goals in five minutes. McCall put the Dons on level terms, but from the re-centre the visitors went straight down the field: Stead collected a pass just outside the penalty area and hit the ball low into the net. Two minutes later Donaldson headed one in from a cross from McCall. Fifteen minutes from the end Hay (Hall Russell's), who had been trying hard throughout, found the net with a grand shot.
