Derek Stillie, lain Nisbet, Andrew McCafferty and Euan Brydson all made their first competitive appearances of the season in the opening East Reserve League fixture against Alloa With Paul Mason and Graham Watson as the only seasoned campaigners in the squad, it was a fairly young and inexperienced side in action at Recreation Park.
This showed in the early stages when indecision in the defence, particularly in dealing with high balls through the middle, contributed to Alloa taking the lead. The lesson was taken to heart, however, and the Pittodrie third team quickly recovered their composure, building up a 3-1 lead by the interval and adding two more goals without reply in the second half. Colin MacRonald led the scoring romp with a hat-trick, one of his goals coming from a penalty kick which Colin himself described as "lucky to go through the keeper's arms". Colin Milne and Paul Mason were the other marksmen.
