Meanwhile, the Dons' third team saw the end of a three-game winning run when they went down by a 3-1 margin at Cowdenbeath in an East Reserve League fixture at Central Park. The most valuable lesson the Pittodrie youngsters can take from this reverse is the need for them to learn how to compete physically to create a platform on which they can parade their skills.
In Cowdenbeath they came up against opponents both experienced and physically strong and the combination of these qualities proved a little too much for the Pittodrie side. The visit to Fife, however, saw recent purchase Scott Thomson open his scoring account for the club, claiming his side's only goal. Unfortuntaley, the game also cost him an injury which he could well have done without at this stage in his settling-in period with a new club and adjusting to full time football.
